What a Week!!!

It's been quite a week of firsts for Xander. Some of which I hope we never repeat. First of all, I'll just start out by saying everyone is okay and home safe and sound. But yesterday was definitely my worst day as a parent and one I hope I never have to go through again. We were on our way downtown via the Queensway (highway) for a going away party for friends, when the traffic up-ahead suddenly came to a halt, John had to brake quickly, but the vehicle coming behind us didn't realize traffic was slowing down. Luckily he attempted to swerve to avoid hitting us at a very fast speed, but still hit the right hand rear-end of the car. The driver behind us ending up flipping his vehicle. In any case, although I was sitting in the back of the car with Xander since I was looking ahead, I wasn't sure if his head came forward with the impact. All we know is that as soon as the minivan hit us, he starting screaming and we couldn't get him to calm down. I was afraid to move him in case he had done something, so I called 911 and that sent a paramedic to come to our vehicle. Since he wouldn't calm down and was hypersensitive to any sounds such as the shutting of the car door or voices, we decided to take him to CHEO (children's hospital). So, he had his first ambulance ride and his first visit to CHEO. This was about 3:30 when we got hit, so of course upon arriving at CHEO, the triage nurse checked him out, then an intern, so thankfully by the time the doctor got around to seeing us at about 5:30 p.m., Xander had returned to being himself. He put on a real show for the doctor - kicking his legs and arms, cooing loudly and smiling. The doctor sort of laughed and said he was pretty certain he was okay but gave him an exam anyway. We were both just so relieved that he was okay. Needless to say he had a few kisses and cuddles yesterday. And I for one will never make fun of John again. I used to call him "Safety Sally" because he would pull poor Xander's straps so tight in the car seat. Needless to say, Xander probably won't want to go anywhere in the carseat once we start making the straps tighter. So, our poor Corolla got towed somewhere - don't know where. Second accident in that car - neither of which were our fault. To make the best of it the first was when the car was only three days old. Anyone wanna buy a Corolla - we'll give you a good deal. We'll probably have to burn it now - cause we'll never sell it.

Anyway Xander had a great sleep last night and seems to be completely back to himself.

On a brighter note - we tried Xander in his Jolly Jumper for the time. He didn't quite know what to make of it.

He also had his first outing to Big Daddy's Crabshack for supper. He was perfect the whole time. He has gotten very curious this week. He follows everyone with his eyes when we go out. He looks all around and takes it all in. He may have John's dimples, but John says he's nosey and talkative like his mother.

He also received a great gift this week from his Great Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Josie - a Baby Einstein DVD collection. He just loves it. Yesterday morning he watched Baby Mozart from start to finish. His eyes were glued for 30 minutes. He kicks and coos and makes his bouncy chair rock as he watches it.

My God! We am glad that you are all alright and that Xander just had a scare and nothing worse. Seems like he is in good spirits in the Jolly Jumper!
